Indonesia is looking to open facilities and refineries to convert used cooking oil and oil palm into jet fuel (avtur) as part of its efforts to shift to alternative energy sources

Indonesia will scrap the import duties on aircraft spare parts to help the industry reduce its operational costs. Indonesia collected 500 billion IDR in aircraft spares import duties throughout 2025. With this announcement, the government is expecting a $700 million worth of annual economic activities in Indonesia's maintenance, repair, and operations (MRO) industry, with an additional $1.49 billion boost for the GDP output. This will support 1,000 direct jobs and over 2,700 indirect jobs

Indonesia AirAsia has reduced its domestic scheduled flights by 7% from 29 Mar-30 Apr. The airline operated 1,746 flights with 314,280 seats as of 22 Mar, and it dropped to 1,620 flights with 291,600 seats from 5 Apr Denpasar - Labuan Bajo 80 flights to 78 flights Jakarta - Denpasar 199 to 185

Economy Minister announced that the jet fuel surcharge will be increased to 38% from 10%, which will allow airlines to raise the base domestic airfare between 9%-13%. He added that the government will cover the 11% VAT on domestic flight tickets to reduce the impact of the price increase. At Soekarno-Hatta International Airport, the jet fuel cost for domestic flights has increased more than 70% since Mar, according to Pertamina, and the cost for international flights has nearly doubled. The government will maintain subsidies for domestically-consumed gasoline and natural gas, which accounts for 30%-40% for the cost for the consumers

The Indonesian National Air Carriers Association (INACA) has renewed its request to the government to increase both fuel surcharge and airfare cap (TBA) by 15%, after Pertamina increased domestic jet fuel prices by an average 70% MoM on 1 Apr

Garuda Indonesia will make Bali a hub for Eastern Indonesia, including Papua, to connect international routes. Garuda Indonesia is looking to open flights in the Jakarta-Denpasar-Timika-Jayapura route. The flight will be operated 4 times a week

Garuda Indonesia will cancel the Denpasar-Seoul service until 31 Mar 2027. The airline initially planned to launch the service on 4 Jul 2026. Garuda will continue its Jakarta-Seoul route with 1 daily flight

PT Pertamina data shows that jet fuel prices in Indonesia have increased from 13,656.51 IDR - 15,737.82 IDR per litre in Mar 2026 to 22,707.92 IDR - 25,632.39 IDR per litre in Apr 2026

Garuda Indonesia and Citilink carried more than 1.1 million passengers from 14-29 Mar, for the Eid al-Fitr period. Garuda Indonesia carried 501,336 passengers through 3,297 flights, and Citilink carried 681,162 passengers through 4,357 flights. The Director of Operations of Garuda Indonesia said that the overall seat load factor (SLF) for the Garuda Indonesia Group reached 86%. The highest traffic in domestic routes was recorded on Jakarta-Medan, Jakarta-Banda Aceh, Surabaya-Denpasar, Jakarta-Pangkal Pinang, and Yogyakarta-Denpasar routes. While for the international routes, the highest traffic was on Jakarta-Amsterdam, Jakarta-Madinah, Jakarta-Jeddah, Jakarta-Haneda, and Denpasar-Tokyo routes. Garuda Group recorded 92.08% on-time-performance during the peak season of Eid al-Fitr, the highest during the festive period in the last 3 years

The Tourism Ministry is looking for a partnership with All Nippon Airways (ANA) to improve connectivity between Indonesia and Japan. The Tourism Minister said there are opportunities for other destinations beyond Jakarta, such as Yogyakarta. The connectivity can also be expanded from other major cities in Japan, such as Osaka

TransNusa Airlines will launch flight service between Jakarta and Lombok from 17 Apr, with 2 daily flights. The airline will increase flight frequencies on the Jakarta-Yogyakarta and Jakarta-Singapore routes from 17 Apr, and the Bali-Singapore route from 2 May. With this service, TransNusa is aiming to reduce pressure on Bali airport

Bali Airport recorded the cancellation of 64 international flights, including 34 departures and 30 arrivals from 28 Feb-6 Mar, causing 8,187 international passengers to postpone their travel. Bali Governor reported there was a drop in foreign arrivals of up to 800 people per day due to the airspace closures in the Middle East

The Indonesian government rejected a request from the airlines to increase the current price ceilings for domestic air travel. Transportation Minister has confirmed the existing airfare will remain in place

TransNusa announced they will launch additional scheduled flights to Singapore from Jakarta (3 times per week) and Bali, from 17 Apr and 2 May, respectively

The Indonesian National Air Carriers Association (INACA) asked the government to approve a 15% increase in fuel surcharge and an increase in the domestic airfare cap (TBA) for jet and propeller aircraft, as the airlines are facing cost pressures. The fuel surcharge is still based on the regulations issued in 2023, while the TBA was based on the fare ceiling set in 2019. INACA also called for temporary stimulus measures, including exempting VAT on jet fuel and domestic airfares, easing airport service charges (PJP4U), and allowing the rescheduling of outstanding airport and navigation payments. INACA added that these steps are needed to ensure “business sustainability, safety assurance and the availability of national air transport connectivity while maintaining a high level of safety”. INACA warned the oil price could increase as Pertamina is set to adjust the monthly basis on 1 Apr. The airlines are also facing intensified operational challenges due to flight reroutes to avoid the conflict zone, which is increasing fuel consumption, while supply chain disruptions have delayed aircraft maintenance. INACA Secretary General said that, “Supply chain disruptions have extended spare parts delivery times from two to three days previously to seven to 10 days, accompanied by higher shipping costs”. The airlines are also seeing a drop in demand on Umrah routes, and a potential drop for inbound flights from Europe and the Middle East

The Tourism Minister said a total of 377 flights to Indonesia were cancelled due to the impact of the Middle East conflict, preventing around 50,000 passengers from coming to Indonesia

InJourney Airports recorded 4.41 million passengers in its 37 airports from 13-21 Mar, for the Eid al-Fitr holiday, +3.7% YoY. The flight traffic increased to 33,099 flights, +6% YoY. The peak travel flow recorded on 18 Mar reached 568,964 passengers, and on the Eid al-Fitr day on 21 Mar, the passengers reached 397,670

Garuda Indonesia targets to operate at least 68 serviceable aircraft by the end of 2026, and 50 serviceable aircraft for Citilink by the end of 2026. The airline received a 23.67 trillion IDR capital injection from Danantara in 2025. Garuda will also overhaul and conduct shop visits on key components such as engines, Auxiliary Power Units (APUs), and landing gear for optimal fleet performance. Garuda Indonesia President Director said they will implement 11 key strategic initiatives, including route network optimisation, fleet capacity enhancement, platform digital transformation, revenue management excellence, and enhanced cargo monetisation, as part of the long-term transformation

The Ministry of Transportation blamed transit flights as the reason for high domestic fare prices ahead of Nyepi (Day of Silence) and Eid al-Fitr holidays. He said economy class tickets for direct domestic flights, which were eligible for the discount offered by the government, have sold out. The Minister added that international airlines which offered tickets for domestic destinations with a transit abroad, “violated” Indonesia's cabotage rule, which states that only local airlines should serve domestic routes. He asked the online travel agents (OTAs) to offer clearer information to the public, particularly on ticket availability during Eid al-Fitr. OTA representatives support the government's fare discount initiative. Tiket.com said it will not display tickets for fully booked flights to users or suggest a seat upgrade when the economy class is sold out. Traveloka said it stopped selling tickets on transit flights to a domestic destination with an overseas layover. The Ministry’s data shows 2.5 million discounted flight tickets have been sold as of 14 Mar, or 52.5% of the total 4.8 million seats available

Garuda Indonesia posted a $323 million USD net loss in 2025, vs $72.7 million posted in 2024. The revenue dropped to $3.22 billion, -6% YoY. 40% of Garuda Indonesia’s fleet is grounded for maintenance, and maintenance and repair costs increased by 23%, whilst the company recorded a foreign exchange loss. This has made Garuda more vulnerable to the increase in fuel prices due to the Middle East conflict

The Ministry of Transportation denied a news report stating that all international flights are suspended due to the conflict. Antara had misquoted the State Secretary by saying the government has put all international travel “on hold”

As of 17 Mar, two Qatar Airways aircraft remain stranded at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport and I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport. The airlines have resumed limited flight operations following the reopening of the UAE’s airspace. Emirates has started to operate limited flights to Jakarta and Denpasar, but it was briefly affected due to disruptions at the fuel farm facility at Dubai Airport on 16 Mar. Etihad Airways has resumed limited operations and plans to increase flight frequency as part of contingency measures for Jakarta and Denpasar routes from Abu Dhabi. Qatar Airways conducted repatriation flights since 8 Mar, and resumed limited services from Jakarta. Other airlines such as Saudi Arabian Airlines, Garuda Indonesia, Lion Air, and Flyadeal continue to operate flights as usual to Saudi Arabia

Bali Airport is expected to be busier ahead of both Nyepi and Eid al-Fitr, and the airport is still supporting the passengers impacted by the Middle East conflict. The Head of Communication & Legal Division at I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport said they served 188,655 passengers during the 3 days of service at the 2026 Eid Transportation Post, +12.9% YoY. Domestic passengers reached 78,388, 36,138 arrivals and 42,250 departures. International passengers reached 110,267, with 51,937 arrivals and 58,330 departures. On average, the airport served 62,885 passengers per day during the post-operation period vs 60,436 passengers per day recorded in 2025. 17 additional domestic flight routes have been introduced for the Eid al-Fitr holiday period, 12 on the Jakarta route and 5 on the Surabaya route. 1.1 million passengers are expected to pass through Bali Airport. The airport will be closed on 19 Mar for Nyepi Day
