17-Apr-2026 🛬 inboundHonorary Secretary-General of the Association of Thai Travel Agents believe that subsidies through the latest Khon La Khrueng Plus (half-half plus) co-payment scheme would not be enough to sustain growth during the Middle East conflict, especially for SMEs. He said the government should help boost operator competitiveness through maintaining commodity prices, including petrol and electricity, along with prioritising debt resolution. President of the Tourism Council of Thailand said the current crisis is mainly due to external, uncontrollable factors, and businesses are willing to adjust operations to mirror higher energy costs. He believes the government should help ease the burden on businesses by ensuring sufficient supply of commodities at appropriate and stable prices. He also thinks that the government should attract new foreign investment and upgrade operators' knowledge, especially in emerging sectors like green and wellness tourism, along with addressing capital shortages and debt issues. He said focusing on high-value tourism is good, but it must be accompanied by measures to ensure fair income distribution, positive social and environmental impacts, and fair employment. He also said Thailand must further diversify towards short-haul markets, which are less affected by the Middle East conflict, through new charter flight initiatives and roadshowsSource: bangkokpost.com/business/general/3238474/tourism-sector-seeking-clear-policies

11-Apr-2026 🛬 inboundThe Secretary-General of the National Economic and Social Development Council (NESDC) said the prolonged Middle East conflict and the closure of the Strait of Hormuz for over a month had significantly affected global energy market confidence. NESDC has revised its 2026 economic forecast for Thailand under four scenarios: • Scenario 1 – A significant drop in global energy supply will hike prices, expedite global inflation, and disrupt industrial supply chains. Financial markets will turn volatile, and the Thai baht will depreciate significantly • Scenario 2 – Many countries, including Thailand, will enter stagflation, characterised by economic recession and high inflation. The Thai economy will grow by 0.9% in 2026, with inflation reaching 4.4% • Scenario 3 – A full-scale war between Iran and its allies against the US, Israel, and their allies, lasting 6-9 months and potentially extending to Nov 2026. Under this scenario, the Thai economy will grow by 0.2% in 2026, with inflation reaching 5.8% • Scenario 4 – A full-scale war with allied countries participating, led by other major powers including Europe, China, and Russia will prolong the war and push the global economy into a severe depression amid food and energy shortages, where the global economy will face a continuous risk of recessionSource: thethaiger.com/news/business/thai-economy-braces-for-stagflation-amid-iran-war-how-real-estate-must-pivot-to-survive

7-Apr-2026 🛬 inboundPresident of the Thai Hotels Association (THA) said overall performance in Q1 2026 met targets, but the association is concerned about Q2, as forward bookings have weakened YoY. Most markets are in a wait-and-see approach for Q3 and Q4. Impact summary by region is as follows: • South: impacted by the loss of Israeli visitors, a key market in some locations like Koh Phangan. The main issue is significantly higher airfares, with some routes up as much as 200% • North: facing three main challenges – Middle East conflict impacts, severe PM2.5 pollution, and the loss of the Israeli market. Songkran bookings fell to around 50%-60%, compared to previous years when hotels were often fully booked • East: Q2 bookings down 10-15%. There are concerns that higher oil prices will affect domestic travel decisions over Songkran. Pattaya continues to benefit from Russian demand shifting from Phuket • West: Middle East conflict impact are less severe than other regions, but operators are concerned about last-minute booking behaviour and oil-price impacts on the domestic market • Central: government and state-enterprise meetings and seminars have slowed significantly due to delayed or cancelled budget spending • Bangkok: Songkran bookings remain below 2025, while the MICE sector has yet to commit bookings for H2 2026 THA said short-haul markets with potential include China and India, alongside South Korea, Indonesia, Taiwan, and Malaysia. The US remain steady for long-haul, alongside continued interest from Nordic countries, Russia, CIS markets, and Australia. THA has proposed eight measures to the government: • Delay introducing the proposed 300 THB foreign tourists' entry fee • Address PM2.5 urgently, especially in the North • Review visa policy to balance convenience with stronger screening against criminals • Reduce energy costs and oil prices to support domestic travel and interprovincial trips • Launch domestic tourism stimulus, such as a Kon La Krueng Plus scheme or support for tourist buses • Support budgets for domestic government meetings and offer incentives for private-sector events • Support charter flights to improve direct access to tourist destinations • Improve liquidity support for operators ahead of a weaker low seasonSource: nationthailand.com/news/tourism/40064752

She projects restaurants in non-tourist areas, which depend mostly on locals, may record a larger drop in sales than those in tourist destinations that sees many travellers with high spending power. She said mid-sized and large restaurants with healthy cash flow are stocking up on ingredients and packaging amid possible shortages. She expressed concern for small restaurants which are more exposed to daily fluctuations in raw material prices. She called on the government to relaunch the "Khon La Khrueng Plus" co-payment scheme, which could boost consumer spendingSource: bangkokpost.com/business/general/3231394/dining-sector-poised-for-downturn

6-Apr-2026 🛬 inboundTAT expects the Songkran Festival (11-15 Apr) to generate around 30.35 billion THB in tourism revenue, +6% YoY. TAT expects around 500,000 foreign visitors, +4% YoY, generating around 8.1 billion THB, +2% YoY. Domestic travellers are expected to make 5.963 million THB, +7% YoY, generating around 22.25 billion THB, +8% YoY. President of the Thai Hotels Association (THA) expects the high fuel prices to affect the Songkran holiday, discouraging people from travelling across provinces in fear of fuel shortage. Some flights from Europe have already doubled in price after the number of flights requiring stopovers in the Middle East fell by around 50%. The THA President expressed concerns about tourism in Q2 amid high fuel prices, especially as tourism enters the low season. Phuket is expected to see the strongest hotel bookings during Songkran, while Chiang Mai’s occupancy is expected to be only 50%-60% due to severe PM2.5 pollution on top of the impact of the Middle East conflict. Q2 bookings for the Eastern region has fallen by 10%-15%, but Pattaya is still seeing an influx of Russian tourists from Phuket. Chief Marketing Officer at Central Pattana Plc believes Songkran travel is likely to remain flat. Founder and Chief Executive of One Asia Ventures expects a stronger response YoY to SIAM Songkran Music Festival 2026, which is scheduled for 11-14 Apr at Bravo BKK Arena Area, RCC, Bangkok. The company increased its budget for the event to 250 million THB, up from 230 million THB in 2025. Founder of S2O said the event business is seeing economic pressures amid slower tourism numbers. S2O Songkran Music Festival 2026 will be held from 11-13 Apr at S2O Land Ratchada, with Thais expected to account for over 60% of attendees. The company will organise the inaugural K2O, a K-pop water music festival, alongside S2O.
